The Scythe: Denzel Curry, Bktherula & LAZER DIM 700 – LIT EFFECT
Denzel Curry returns with The Scythe, a new supergroup featuring A$AP Ferg, Bktherula, TiaCorine, and Key Nyata. Their debut album Strictly 4 The Scythe drops 6 March via Loma Vista Recordings, previewed by lead single “LIT EFFECT” featuring Bktherula and LAZER DIM 700.
Produced by BNYX and BRYVN, “LIT EFFECT” is all low-end throb and confrontational attitude—a high-octane, rave-ready banger built to make bodies move. Bktherula handles the hook, rapping about how she doesn’t waste time talking on the internet because she’s too busy doing outstanding stuff in real life. LAZER DIM 700 stays on message with his opening verse, flexing money and confidence while calling out fake internet beef.
Curry takes the second verse and shows off serious lyrical dexterity, including a slick reference to former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick: “Never was worried ’bout bills when they bill a check / Patriot, makin’ this pape’ then savin’ it ’til it’s lookin’ like its pages or somethin’.”
The Scythe hearkens back to Curry’s early days as a member of Raider Klan. “The Scythe is a family and a group,” Curry explains. “We still have our respective solo careers, but when we come together, it’s The Scythe.” The project combines his unique style with classically gritty Southern sounds, centering hip-hop’s core across eras and paying homage to the South’s great musical legacy while ushering in a rising new guard.
The eight-song album features contributions from Juicy J, Smino, 454, Luh Tyler, Rich The Kid, Sadboi, and 1900Rugrat. This marks Curry’s first full-length project since King of the Mischievous South, one of the standout rap albums of 2024.
